New study is a further testament to the hardiness of the water bear
The water bear is the cockroach of microbes; they nearly always pull through when researchers throw them into Armageddon-like conditions. Now it seems that even their unborn young have unprecedented endurance.
The microscopic animals called water bears already have quite a number of accomplishments under their belts. In experiments, they’ve survived the vacuum of space, large doses of radiation, extreme heat, extreme cold, and extreme pressure, giving scientists cause to believe that the little guys could potentially live on other planets and weather long journeys across space…
But to pull this off, they’d have to reproduce. Scientists have now exposed water bear eggs to three of these stressors—extreme temperature, vacuum, and a dose of radiation so strong that exposure to even a fraction of it would kill a human in days. They found that provided the eggs are given a chance to dehydrate themselves and go dormant, surprising numbers that survive: more than 70% of eggs for the temperature test, and more than 50% for the radiation test, while vacuum-exposed eggs hatched at similar rates as control eggs.
Here’s a randomly-selected list of news headlines about it:
- “Coffee drinkers may live longer, study suggests” … ok, not so bad. Surely the study suggests that somewhere? (More about that later)
- “Can coffee help you live longer?” … Do you know the answer? Then just tell me. I mean, are you…

A lot of people want to make the time move faster. They look forward new experiences, new encounters, a new start to a new life, such as graduation. There is nothing wrong with that, kinda. Future will always be better than today and the past. People will always seek happiness, and through their efforts and their power and talent that God had bestowed upon them, facilitated by the ambition, people will always move forward. If you stand in the same place, nothing would change. If you even just put one step forward, something will change, and I believe something good will happen. Thus, it is always recommended that you would do something. Failures may be inevitable, and suffering of some sort may ensue, but it is important to learn from such mistakes. Unlike academics, once you are in control of your actions, it is almost impossible to make an “accidental” error, so by learning from your mistakes, guided by a soul of holiness, one could walk the path that Jesus had left behind for us. Like stated previously, some people want to skip ahead in time, due to various circumstances, such as perhaps an embarrassing mistake or sadness. However, it is of great significance that such low times must still be savored. One is because you can learn from these things, and by feeling these negative emotions, eventually you could become resistant to them. Another though, is because such emotions and mistakes that you make are a part of your identity. People call you by your name, but a name is not you; it is merely a combination of 26 possible letters. You are defined by your your ideals- what you represent, what you protect, what you treasure, what you seek, etc., and your actions, no matter if they are successes or failures, and One always wish success over failure, and it is recommended to do so, as it will motivate you to always move forward and rise higher. However, keep in mind that there is no need to achieve a level of perfection. Perfection maybe desired, but it is predictable, and if you force to correct your nature and completely re-modify them, in the process you may lose your own identity, becoming more mechanical than human. The present is the state of time that most people want to skip; the past is impossible to correct, and the future is a mystery. Thus, people often just let the sad times tick by. It is known that time can wash away many sadness and heal many wounds; however, the time that is hurried away to heal is also time that you could not recover.

Enkel Dika: Extraordinary Observer/ Tree Of Life
mezd:
I’ve always wondered what made us so typically fond of our childhoods. I used to play with the idea that we were born with a natural high that just gradually goes away with age. But I thought of an analogy that I just wanted to write down.
Our brain is like a tire. or a gear. it has teeth that grip the road of life. the longer we go down that road, the more clogged up and worn the teeth get. The teeth of our gears take in everything initially, like our brain. Physically, at birth it’s like a sponge that virtually soaks in information. So in those first few stages of life, everything is absorbed. the good and the bad. We can control what we do and don’t remember on an almost subconscious state. But our brain kicks out old, unneeded information/memories if we don’t need them/use them. So the longer we travel down life’s road, the less our gears have to grip. So it throws out the old, unwanted stuff leaving you with blissful memories of your youth.
Ouch.
